They began some 30 years ago, formed from the ashes of Walthamstow outfit Help Yourself, featuring Ken Whaley on bass, Richard Treece on guitar, Si Burgin on guitar and Simon Whaley on drums. After the untimely passing of several members, the band has continued under the guidance of Simon Whaley (who has now switched to guitar and vocals) and fellow guitarist and singer, Martin Gee. For almost 58 years, Guru Guru have been among the most consistent and innovative groups in German rock history. They created a synthesis of experimental rock, avant-garde approaches, jazz variations, and world music influences.
